Pigmentation Removal

We use the Q-Switched Laser treatments for pigmentation removal.
Pigmented lesions such as sun spots and freckles can be successfully removed creating a more flawless, youthful and glowing appearance
Every body is welcome at Buff & Bare. We will carry out a full consultation with you before any pigmentation removal treatment so if you’d like to know more, please do get in touch and we’ll be happy to discuss it.

How we work
Consultation & Preparation
We’ll have a chat with you to find out about your skin and look at the sun spots, freckles or lesions that you would like removed. We will ask you to sign a consent form and undergo a patch test.
We will also discuss your medical history to ensure there are no contraindications and talk about any supplements, lotions, creams or oils you may be using on your skin at the moment.
Most people are suitable for treatment, except very dark skinned or very tanned individuals.
All staff at Buff & Bare are trained to spot the signs of skin cancer. If there are any lesions or areas that concern us, we will suggest you contact your GP before we carry out any treatments.
If you come for a repeat appointment, we’ll check with you that nothing has changed.
We’ll then clean and prepare you skin for treatment as well as giving your protective eye wear.
Will it hurt?
Generally, our clients say pigmentation removal treatment is a bit uncomfortable but doesn’t need any anaesthesia.
If you’re uncomfortable at any point, always let us know.
The Process
When you are comfortable, the light applicator will be placed on the skin and a short-pulse of light released.
The applicator is then moved to the neighbouring area and the process is repeated until the entire area is treated.
With Q-Switched Laser treatments due to the power of the Laser energy delivered into the skin, a small amount of pinpoint bleeding may occur during the treatment, and a dressing may be applied after the treatment to protect the skin while it heals.
The skin that surrounds the pigmented lesion may become red after treatment. This doesn’t usually last very long – clients report a couple of hours to a couple of days.
Some lesions can be treated in one session, others may need up to 3, spaced 4-6 weeks apart.
Treatment time depends on the size of the lesion – it’s usually between 10 and 30 minutes.
After Care
The treated area may feel warm and sensitive for the first few days post treatment.
The lesions may darken and may appear more obvious before they fade and ‘flake’ away.
Sometimes an initial whitening of the area is seen which quickly fades and the pigment gradually fades over the following few weeks.
There may be some redness for a couple of hours after the treatment. Most people experience no other side effects but very rarely a small blister could form or the skin may become temporarily lighter or darker.
We’ll let you know when you can use products on the treated area again.
If you experience any unexpected reactions after treatment, please get in touch with us immediately.
