Facial Red Veins, Spider Veins and Telangiectasia

We use IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) and Laser Treatments to remove facial red veins, spider veins and Telangiectasia for people of all ages.
These tiny red, purple or blueish lines are tiny blood capilliaries that run close to the surface of the skin. They often form a ‘web’ – hence why they’re known as ‘spider veins’. More commonly found in women, they affect people of all ages and are often hereditary.
The most common cause of spider veins is the natural thinning of the skin that comes with age. They can also be caused by overexposure to the sun, drastic changes in weather, changes in pressure, excessive alcohol consumption, environmental irritants, rosacea, hormonal changes, or simply genetics.
Every body is welcome at Buff & Bare. Most red skin lesions, including facial thread veins, rosacea, spider naevi, and Campbell de Morgan spots, can be treated very successfully. Depending on the lesions, leg vessels can also respond well to treatment. If you’re not sure whether this treatment is right for you, please do get in touch and we’ll be happy to discuss it.

How we work
Consultation & Preparation
We’ll have a chat with you to find out the veins that you want treated and look at the size and type to determine the best course of treatment.
We will also discuss your medical history to consider any genetic factors, to ensure there are no contraindications and talk about any supplements, lotions, creams or oils you may be using on your skin at the moment.
You’ll be asked to sign a consent form and undergo a patch test.
When you come for a repeat appointment, we’ll check with you that nothing has changed.
We’ll then clean and prepare you skin for treatment as well as giving your protective eye wear.
Will it hurt?
Generally, our clients say our red vein treatment is a bit uncomfortable but doesn’t need any anaesthesia. It’s been likened to a very quick hot pin prick.
If you’re uncomfortable at any point, always let us know.
The Process
Depending on the veins involved, and their cause, we’ll have discussed whether we use Laser or IPL treatment with you.
The same principle applies to both treatment types. Once you’re comfortable, we’ll use a handset to apply light energy to the skin where it is readily absorbed by blood vessels, heating them to a point where they are destroyed.
Once the area has been treatment, we move onto the next one.
Following treatment, the vessels quickly clear as they are reabsorbed by the body, leaving little or no trace of the original lesion
Some people get a complete result with one treatment, however most need 3-5 treatments spaced 4-6 weeks apart.
Treatments are usually between 15 and 45 minutes, depending on the area.
After Care
After treatment the area may feel warm for a few hours. Rarely, some delicate skin areas such as the cheeks or décolleté can be red and slightly swollen for up to 48 hours.
Though very rare, there is a chance a small blister may form and there could be temporary lightening or darkening of the skin.
We see the best results and fewest side effects on people with fair skin – but have seen great results on a wide range of skin tones.
We’ll let you know when you can use products on the treated area again.
If you experience any unexpected reactions after treatment, please get in touch with us immediately.
