Age Spots

Age Spots are brown or grayish patches that typically appear on the skin as a result of aging and long-term exposure to the sun – often on the face, hands, shoulders, and arms.
We use IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) Treatment to target the build up of melanin that creates the spots and to stimulate the production of collagen which can improve the skin texture and overall complexion.
Every body is welcome at Buff & Bare. If you’re not sure whether IPL treatment is right for you, please do get in touch and we’ll be happy to discuss it.

How we work
Consultation & Preparation
We’ll have a chat with you about the age spots (also known as lesions) that you want to have treated. We’ll look at where they are, your skin tone and find out a bit more about your lifestyle and history of sun exposure.
Everyone at Buff & Bare has been trained to spot the signs of skin cancer and we will suggest you contact your GP if we see anything we’re not sure about.
We will also discuss your medical history to ensure there are no contraindications and carry out a patch test.
When you come for a repeat appointment, we’ll check with you that nothing has changed.
We’ll then clean and prepare you skin for treatment as well as giving your protective eye wear.
Will it hurt?
Generally, our clients say IPL treatment is mildly uncomfortable but doesn’t need any anaethesia. The area being treated can feel hot.
If you’re uncomfortable at any point, always let us know.
The Process
We use the Lynton Lumina system for our IPL treatments – a device that you would find in NHS and private hospitals here in the UK.
We use this system for other treatments – changing out the handsets and altering the settings depending on your needs.
When you’re comfortable, we’ll place the light applicator on the skin and a short pulse of light will be released. This will be repeated over the area being treated.
You might experience a bit of redness, warmth and sensitivity after each area of skin is treated.
Treatments generally take between 10 and 30 minutes, depending on the size and type of age spots.
Some people get the results they want after one treatment – others can need up to 3 treatments, 4-6 weeks apart.
After Care
There may be some redness and sensitivity after the treatment – lasting up to a few days.
Most people experience no other side effects but very rarely a small blister could form or the skin may become temporarily lighter or darker.
The age spots may darken and may appear more obvious before they fade and ‘ flake’ away. Sometimes an initial whitening of the area is seen which quickly fades and the pigment gradually fades over the following few weeks.
We’ll let you know when you can use products on the treated area again.
If you experience any unexpected reactions after treatment, please get in touch with us immediately.
