HIFU

HIFU stands for High Intensity Focused Ultrasound.
It’s a non-invasive technique that can produce face-lift like results, smoothing out wrinkles and tightening the treated areas – which then continues over time.
Treatment options include:
- Wrinkle reduction
- Skin tightening
- Correction of facial shape
- Non-surgical face lifting
- Cheek lifting
- Chin reduction
- Eyebrow lifting + more
We can also combine this treatment with Microneedling which can give phenomenal results – please do have a chat with us to find out more.
Every body is welcome at Buff & Bare. We can use HIFU technology to treat both the face and body. If you’re not sure if HIFU treatment is right for you, please do get in touch and we’ll be happy to discuss it.

How we work
Consultation & Preparation
We’ll have a chat with you to find out what you’re hoping to achieve with HIFU treatment and whether you want to combine it with any of our other services. We have a range of ‘before’ and ‘after’ photos if you’d like to see them.
We will also discuss your medical history to ensure there are no contraindications and talk about any supplements, lotions, creams or oils you may be using on your skin at the moment.
HIFU is not suitable for people with severely sagging skin as it may increase the sagging rather than reduce it.
When you come for a repeat appointment, we’ll check with you that nothing has changed.
We’ll then clean and prepare you skin for treatment.
Will it hurt?
Quite possibly, yes. Some people describe it as uncomfortable, others say it is painful. However, the pain is very short lived as it only occurs when the treatment is happening.
If you’re too uncomfortable at any point, always let us know.
The Process
Once you’re comfortable, we use a special cartridge to apply the HIFU to the area being treated. It delivers the ultrasound waves deep into the tissue without damaging the skin.
These waves heat up the targeted area to stimulate new collagen to be produced – working on the same superficial muscular aponeurotic system (SMAS) that plastic surgeons manipulate when peforming a surgical facelift. If you’d like more details about how this works, let us know!
As new collagen is produced, your skin will become naturally become tighter, smoother and look younger – a process that continues for up to 9 months.
People tend to see results after the first treatment but for optimum results we suggest up to 3 treatments. We’ll invite you back for a top up after 18 months or so – depending on whether you’ve combined this with other treatments.
Treatments usually take betwen 30 and 90 minutes.
After Care
You will have some redness (erythema) of the skin after treatment. For most people this subsides after a couple of hours but it can take up to 24 hours to settle.
The treated area may be sensitive for some time (days/weeks) after treatment. Some clients have reported swelling and tingling sensations as well as feeling like the area is bruised.
The most rare side effect of HIFU is numbness in the treated area. Clinical studies have shown this to be temporary and lasting a few weeks.
We’ll create you a personal after care plan and let you know when you can use products on the area again.
If you experience any unexpected reactions after treatment, please get in touch with us immediately.
